7 Expert Tips to Assemble the Best Sexy Photoshoot Lingerie
The right piece of photoshoot lingerie can make you feel powerful, magnetic, and sensual. The wrong one? It can trigger a spiral of self-criticism, even shame.
Suddenly, it’s not “this bra doesn’t fit,” it’s “my body is wrong.”
Let’s stop blaming our bodies and start wearing better lingerie!
There are pieces that were made to look amazing on you — and finding them can be a joyful, empowering, and fun experience. Your boudoir shoot is the perfect excuse to explore that.
That’s where we come in. At Earthly Venus, we don’t just take your photo — we want to help you to see yourself differently. Lingerie is part of that. Based on years of styling and empowering real people on our sets, here’s what we recommend to look for when you're prepping for your shoot.
1. Plan to Bring a Variety of Looks
Instead of packing a bunch of two-peice lace sets that all look (and feel) basically the same, think strategically! Bring a Variety of sets, and think about how each one highlights a different part of you.
For example, bring a set that shows off your chest. Another that elongates your legs. One that hugs your waist. Maybe something sheer that shows off your back.
This creates a dynamic and visually diverse final album or gallery of images, so you’ll feel like you really got the most out of your photo shoot.
2. Find your Actual Bra Size
Most people are wearing the wrong bra size, which means you’re probably wearing the wrong size too! This is especially important to correct as you explore lingerie photography.
Visit a real lingerie shop (yes, in person!) and have a fit expert size you; local shops are best, since brands like Victoria’s Secret will often just size you based on what they have in stock, not what actually fits.
The right fit won’t just feel better—it will look better on camera. Supportive, well-fitting pieces smooth and shape your body in all the right ways. Plus, the store’s associate can walk you through different cuts, styles, and brands.
3. Size Up, Not Down
One of the most common mistakes we see at lingerie photoshoots? Pieces that are a little too small.
When something digs in — especially around areas like hips, thighs, or under the bust — it can cause skin to pucker or spill over, creating that dreaded “muffin top” aesthetic.
This has nothing to do with your body. It’s the lingerie! So always size up if you’re in between. You want your photoshoot lingerie to lay smoothly on your body, as if it were made for you.
4. Choose one Piece with a Little Extra Belly Coverage
So many of us feel insecurities around our midsections — and you might feel this way too, even if you’re otherwise a generally confident girly!
Your apparel can support you as you learn to love yourself more fully. That’s why we recommend bringing at least one piece that offers a little more coverage. If extra coverage eases your anxieties and helps you to feel more confident, we’re all for it!
5. Don’t Forget About Shoes
Shoes might seem like an afterthought — but they really make your photoshoot lingerie feel like a complete look.
Heels will give you long and sculpted legs. Whether it’s a stiletto or a chunky statement, they make your silhouette look extra tall — Sabrina Carpenter might be only be 5ft tall, but she never looks short! A classic Louboutin red bottom or YSL heel can also give your outfits that luxury feel.
Bare feet can also look great in the right contexts — it brings casual, undressed energy that makes your photos feel raw and intimate.
And we all know feet pics are going to be your biggest money makers. (Kidding! …but what if…?)
6. Raid our Client Closet
If you’re not sure what to bring, or you just want to try something new without the commitment of buying it first, we’ve got you.
Our Earthly Venus Client Closet is officially launching this September — and it’s full of hand-picked pieces that photograph like a dream. Think body-hugging bodysuits, edgy textures, and lingerie sets that flatter every curve.
We’re currently stocking sizes XS through XL, and working on adding more as we learn what you love.
And here’s your VIP perk: Until our official launch, you can try pieces from the closet for free when you’re on set with us. Just ask!
It’s the easiest way to experiment with new styles, add variety to your shoot, or find that one piece you didn’t know you needed until you put it on.
7. Make it Personal
The most unforgettable photos often include a personal touch—something that tells a bit of your story. Bring something borrowed from your partner to add your personal story to your photos. A button-down shirt, workwear, or even a leather jacket can add a playful and personal touch.
Does your partner have a favorite sports team? Bring their jersey! Do you have a matching set of jewelry? An inside joke or a memento you both cherish?
These types of things will help your partner to feel special, knowing that you were thinking about them as you created these special images.
